As you sit at home and apply to jobs that interest you, you can always make good use of your time. This will also help with experiences you need for the jobs you are applying for. Apart from the obvious which is updating your resume and writing cover letters, you can also do things that will help build you.

Here are 4 smart things you can do with your time while you are not working.
1. VOLUNTEER
Volunteering for a charity or community organization is a great way to learn new skills and expose yourself to new fields. It can build your confidence and bring out that you have to offer. This can expand your network and expose you to different people with experience and backgrounds you can learn from who will be able to vouch for you to others.

2. MAKE YOURSELF MORE VISIBLE IN YOUR FIELD
It is important that you stay abreast of what is going on in your professional field. One way you can do that is by joining professional association, go to its events and volunteer to take on leadership roles whether its to plan a conference or a company event. You can also build your professional presence online by finding out where people in your field are more prominent online. This can be on either blogs or news sites, or linkedin groups.

3. LEARN A NEW SKILL
Whether its learning how to code, or expanding your knowledge on Microsoft packages, building your skills can make you a strong job candidate as well as boost your confidence. You can take online courses or enroll in virtual classes or even learn from materials you find online.

4. CATCH UP WITH YOUR NETWORK
It is important that you catch up with people in your professional field especially past co-workers or managers that liked your work. They are always in the best position to vouch for you and recommend you to others especially in the time that you are applying for jobs.
