Highlights of the Lagos Small Business Summit 2019

Lagos Small Business Summit organized by SME100 Africa brings together government leaders, private sector, academia, policy makers and small business owners; who are innovative game changers in their various sectors to discuss the impact of policies that will affect small and medium scale businesses in Nigeria.

The 2019 Edition marks the fourth edition of the summit and it launched the two days summit which held on the 20th to 21st of November, at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, Africa The theme for this year’s summit is “THE FUTURE OF SMALL BUSINESSES: CREATING A CULTURE OF PURPOSEFUL AND SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION”

The Summit started with a welcome address, which set the agenda for the Summit by the Executive Director SME100 AFRICA Mr. Charles Odii.

The D.CEO of Interswitch, Mr. Akeem Lawal gave the first presentation of the summit titled : Creating Exponential Institutions with focus on how Government and small Business owners can keep up with the market, he also briefly shared the success story of Interswitch with us.

After the presentation, we had the Panel which included Mr Akeem Lawal of @interswitchgroup and representative of the deputy governor of CBN, Aishah Ahmad , Moderated by Oby Ugboma: CRO,Chapel Hill Denham

The panel spoke on a topic titled: Creating Exponential Institutions with focus on how Government and small Business owners can keep up with the market

 After the first Panel session, there was a tour of the exhibition stand, after which the next panel session held.

Second Panel session at the Lagos Small Business Summit 2019 which featured Mr. seyi Tinubu of @loatsad_promomedia , Mr. Paul Adebo of @myfcmb , Mrs. Omolola Adagunodo of @jumiatravelng , Miss Tope Omotolani of @crowdyvestng and moderated by Orode Uduaghan of @terchub Topic Discussed: Creating a culture of purposeful and sustainable innovation for startups and small businesses.

The panel discussed on how entrepreneurs need to branch out and make a difference in the society by creating trends and breaking the norm.

After the second Panel session we had a presentation by the representative from LIRS

She spoke on the Taxation and the different types of types and it importance to business growth and development in Nigeria”

After the presentation we had the third panel session : Alliance to End Plastic Waste

Head SME, LSETD,  Representative of Lola Akande, Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Agherese L.Onaghise, Executive Secretary Food and Amp Beverage Recycling and moderated by the Executive Director of SME100 Africa, Mr. Charles Odii.

 Day 2 of the Summit kicked off with a presentation from Mr. Olajire Adeleke, Head, Bank Assurance, Leadway Assurance Titled : Insurance for You And Your Business, where he spoke on the place and role of insurance in doing business.

After the first presentation, was another presentation by the representative of Bolanle Austin Peters, Executive Director of Terra Kulture and BAP productions,Olamide Akinwuntan

the presentation was titled : “ Exploring The Creative Industry To Build an Innovative Driven Economy” she shared insights about the creative Industry In Nigeria and Innovating sustainably.

The first Panel session of Day 2 was the women in Business Panel and was made up of Beverly Naya, an Actress/Entrepreneur, Yetunde Moito, Head of Sheventures, FCMB, Akinwuntan Akinre of AXA , the panel was moderated by Tokunbo Sotinwa of Bubble T.

Topic Discussed:Women In Business: Transforming Our Fear of Failure to Becoming an Innovative Nation 

The Creative Panel session was the second panel  of  day 2, it  was made up of Seyi Tinubu of Loatsad Promomedia, Richard of Inventa Consult, Ifeyinwa Anyadiegwu of Chocolate City Group, Representative of Mr. Patrick Akinwutan, CEO Ecobank and moderated by Executive Director of SME100 Africa, Mr. Charles Odii 

Topic Discussed : “Exploring The Creative Industry To Build An Innovative Driven Economy.

After Which we had the Pitch Competition, the pitch competition had 35 contestants who pitched their ideas to investors for the prizemoney and 10 competitors moved to the next stage and one of the competitors with business Dios Dlite came out tops as the winner of the N1million naira cash prize.

We had various businesses come and take stands to showcase their various products to the participants of the event.
