Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has invited the Department of State Security (DSS) to work with the police to investigate the mysterious death of 27-year-old musician named Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Imole Aloba better known as Mohbad. According to a source from Mohbad’s team, the singer took a trip to the hospital on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, for treatment for an infection he suffered from an injury, after which he was administered an injection.
The source shared that, Mohbad passed out shortly after the injection was administered and unfortunately did not wake up.
The news of Mohbad’s death sent shock waves across social media were colleagues and fans shared their sadness over the death of the singer whose last EP was released EP in June 2023. A statement was released on the singer’s Twitter account on Tuesday night, officially confirmed the news.
It read, “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023. Mohbad was a light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. Imole is finally at peace.”
Mohbad aka Imole gained immense popularity in 2020 after his hit song Ko Po Ke was released. In 2019 the fast-rising star was signed into Marlian Records which is headed by Naira Marley. Unfortunately, he faced issues concerning his royalties and exited the label in 2022. His legal team released a statement asserting that Mohbad’s exit was a result of the constant attacks received, which were allegedly orchestrated by Naira Marley.

Sanwo-Olu in a statement on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, said his government has been “working behind the scenes with relevant authorities, and keenly following the ongoing investigations.”

In his statement, the Lagos State Governor said he invited the DSS to boost police investigations on Mohbad’s death, adding that anyone who played a role in the singer’s death would face the law.
“In order to boost the investigations, I have invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to join the investigation and widen the dragnet with inter-agency collaboration and use of best-in-class technology to unearth the truth.
I have instructed that all those who may have played any role whatsoever in any event leading to the death of MohBad be made to face the law after a thorough investigation,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor also pleaded with those who may have vital information that may assist the investigation process to avail the police and the DSS with such.
“I have also appealed to the investigating team to guarantee the confidentiality and protection of all witnesses who may come forward with vital information or indicative evidence that may assist the process. The Police and the DSS have promised to brief the public on their efforts periodically,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor, therefore, called on all friends and fans of the deceased to stay calm and refrain from making inflammatory utterances and prejudicial conclusions on the matter.
He said staying calm and following the process would be their most solemn tribute to the memory of Mohbad.
Sanwo-Olu also commiserated with family, friends, colleagues, and fans of the singer, saying he wished love and light.
