The rescheduled gubernatorial elections, originally set for March 11th, will now take place on March 18th, 2023, which is hardly a surprise to any Nigerian. The younger demographic in particular has had many conflicting emotions regarding this independent national election commission ruling. As they are left wondering what exactly this means for them.
Their reactions to the decision have raised important questions, such as what the implications of the decision are for young people and the Nigerian economy, which is already in decline. Some of which includes

POLITICAL APATHY

In order to participate in the process. Many citizens had to move to their different registrations locations. Now that they have to return to their places of employment ,there
may be some apathy before the rescheduled process. It is safe to predict that there may not be the same enthusiasm for the gubernatorial elections that were postponed

SHORTAGE OF NYSC AD-HOC STAFF

Corp members serving as ad hoc officers who have reported serious challenges with movement and taking excuses from their places of work in order to help coordinate the electoral process would have to repeat that process all over again due to the electoral commission’s rescheduling of the election and may wish to drop out of the program.

ECONOMIC INSTABILITY

The largest economy in Africa may suffer significant economic and financial losses as a result of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to postpone the gubernatorial elections.
With N355 billion allocated by INEC for the elections in 2023, postponing any election-related activity would result in a staggering loss due to the suspension of economic activity and mobility restrictions.

LOW STANDARD OF LIVING

Following the redesign of the national currency and the withdrawal of the old currency notes, there has been a two-month cash shortage. Scarcity has forced many small businesses that rely on cash transactions to close, while citizens are having difficulty accessing cash for daily expenses. This affects mobility and creates a poor standard of living for Nigerians.
